Thursday, March 8, 2012 A former Uniontown fire chief and his estranged wife were convicted on Wednesday of theft and conspiracy connected with $16,990 in fraudulent unemployment claims.

A jury deliberated for approximately four hours before returning the guilty verdicts against former Chief Myron Nypaver, 46, and his wife, Lisa, 42. In addition, Lisa Nypaver was found guilty of access-device fraud.

Prosecutors said the couple collected $16,990 in unemployment benefits on behalf of Myron Nypaver between March 6, 2010, and Oct, 2, 2010. The former chief was ineligible to receive them because he was working, according to trial testimony.
